Still Growing

We fairly recently experienced a company name change from Swiftsure Marine Surveyors to Swiftsure Vessel Solutions.  We are still experiencing some of the growth challenges and are working towards completing the process to eliminate customer confusion.  In so doing, we thought we'd also share with you a little about the re-organization.

When we began this company years ago, we were both transitioning out of the Canadian Forces after a number of years of service.  When Raymond was told by Veterans Affairs Canada doctors to begin thinking about a new career, we discussed at home, at length, where his passions lay, boats immediately came to the forefront of the conversation.  He also realized after a lengthy and varied career in both the army and the airforce that he took safety and standards to heart.  A natural teacher, he wanted to share safe practices, ensuring standards were met while educating the marine community.  Surveying was a perfect fit.

Quite naturally, the scope of work for the company grew as Raymond's constant quest for personal and professional growth drove him to education across related fields.

In Canada, there was (and still is) no professional requirement for surveyors - one could quite literally hang a shingle and charge for the job.  But Raymond's own pride in the quality of his work, which came from his mission to ensure safety and security for all in the boating community, had him instantly (and continually) seek out the next training event, workshop, seminar, advice from mentors, etc.  As such, you will not easily find a more qualified service provider in the local area.

And his mission has not changed.  Safety and security of everyone in the marine community.  And his professional competence has grown to a point where Marine Surveys (boat inspections) were not the sole focus of his work.

Today, in addition to be a Master Marine Technician with the American Boat and Yacht Council (which applies in Canada because Transport Canada standards refer us directly to ABYC - an international organization despite it's name - it, too, has grown), he sits on standards-setting committees for ABYC, is a Yacht Design student with Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology, is a student member of RINA (Royal Institute of Naval Architects), is a member of SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers), is a Certified Marine Surveyor (CMS) with NAMS (National Association of Marine Surveyors), and is a Standards Compliance Specialist for National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).  His clientele is not only the boat owner looking for an insurance survey, but is increasingly the boat purchaser and broker looking for a detailed and accurate inspection clearly identifying deficiencies, insurance companies looking for reports on incidents and issues, financial institutions seeking accurate appraisals, boat builders looking for Transport Canada Compliance Inspections, boat owners participating in the  Blue Sticker Program, and clients seeking design services (before or after build/refit) on myriad jobs (from re-designing a simple electrical system to acting as project manager and surveyor on multi-million dollar contracts for entire vessels). Raymond also provides services for marinas (marina inspections, ensuring safe water free from stray current) and individuals looking to handle / prevent corrosion.  SVS has always made efforts locally to educate the community, whether on general systems knowledge or as community awareness initiative (such as Electric Shock Drowning, working to prevent injury and fatality), and the SVS team now works internationally to educate clients on systems and safety in accordance with standards and best practices.

In short, we are still a family run business.
While our scope and our client base had us outgrow the old name,
our mission has not faltered and we still strive to ensure quality (in service and product)
as we still believe wholeheartedly in protecting our clients safety and security (financial and physical).

So thank you for your continued patience while we grow to serve you better!

Toby
